Question 28723: I am supose to find an algebraic expression for the quantity in italics. I will place parenthises around the italic word in this problem.
The (length)of a rectangle, given that it's width is w feet and it's lenght is 3 feet shorter than twice the width.
Can you show me how to work this out to find what the algebraic expression would be?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Linda

Answer by pwac(253)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let l= length
w = width
so twice the width is represented by 2w(2 times width)
then 3 feet less than this would be 2w-3
so an appropriate algebraic expression would be:
l=2w-3.
hope this helps
Pete
