Question 258054: Hypatia said that, for the linear functions, vertical translations have the same effect as horizontal translations and that reflecting across the x-axis has the same effect as reflecting across the y-axis. Do you agree with Hypatia? Explain why or why not.

First Hypatia was a great mathematician and on of the earliest known female mathematicians.

I disagree on the first part. Vertical translations move the graph up or down. Horizontal translations move the graph left or right. This is NOT the same effect.

I disagree on the second part as well. reflecting across the x-axis changes the y value of the coordinate and reflecting across the y-axis changes the x-value of the coordinate.
