Question 187596: The perimeter of a rectangle is 144m. The length is 9m more than twice the width. What are the deminsions and how do I place the numbers in an equation?
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"The perimeter of a rectangle is 144m" ___ 2L + 2W = 144
"The length is 9m more than twice the width" ___ L = 2W+9
SUBSTITUTING ___ 2(2W+9) + 2W = 144 ___ 4W + 18 + 2W = 144 ___ 6W = 126 ___ W = 21
substituting (again) ___ 2L + 2(21) = 144 ___ 2L + 42 = 144 ___ 2L = 102 ___ L = 51
