: an ice cream stand sells single dip cones for $1.75 and double dip cones for 2.25. Yesterday, 500 cones were sold for $930. how many single dip cones and how many double dip cones were sold?
my method of trying to solve this problem was to divide 1.75 by 930, but it got me way past the number that i was looking for. then i did an algebraic equation: 1.75x + 2.25x= 930 and when i solved it i got x=232.50. but they are asking how many EACH were sold. so i figured that if i divided this number by 1.75 and again by 2.25, i wouldnt get the desired result. if you could help this would make my day. please and thank you. an ice cream stand sells single dip cones for $1.75 and double dip cones for 2.25. Yesterday, 500 cones were sold for $930. how many single dip cones and how many double dip cones were sold?
---------
Quantity Equation:
s + d = 500
Value Equation:
175s + 225d = 93000
------------------------
Rearrange for elimination:
175s + 175d = 175*500
175s + 225d = 93000
-------------
Subtract the 1st from the 2nd to get:
50d = 93000-175*500
d = 110 (# of double-dip cones sold)
Since s+d = 500, s = 390 (# of single-dip cones sold)
