Let the numbers be: x, (x+1)
:
Just write an equation for what it says:
:
"The sum of two consecutive numbers is 45."
x + (x+1) = 45
2x + 1 = 45
2x = 45 - 1
2x = 44
x =
x = 22 & 23 are the numbers
:
Assume this is another problem
:
Using x, x+1 again:
"If 4 times the smaller number is increased by 3 times the larger number, the result is 150."
4x + 3(x+1) = 150
4x + 3x + 3 = 150
7x = 150 - 3
7x = 147
x = 21, and 22 are the numbers
