let x = # of visiting team fans

then 4x+7 = # of home team fans (7 more than four times the number of visiting team fans)

The number of home team fans was 12 more than the number of visiting team fans:

4x+7 = x+12

Solve using basic algebra.

(unfortunately, the given information leads to numbers of fans that are not whole numbers -- so the problem is faulty....)
