If "x" is that unknown score, then you have this inequality to find x


     >= 85.


Simplify step by step and solve


    87 + 74 + x >= 85*3 = 255


    x            >= 255 - 87 - 74 = 94.


ANSWER.  The student must get at least 94 to get the goal.
