I'm assuming the combined volume is 72 cm^3.
cube a: side is x, volume is x^3
cube b: side is 2x, volume is 8x^3
Their sum is 9x^3=72 cm^3
Therefore x^3=8 cm^3; take the cube root of both sides.
x-2 cm, so cube a has a volume of 8 cm^3
2x=4 cm, so cube b has a volume of 64 cm^3
They sum to 72 cm^3.
a has a side of 2 cm
b has a side of 4 cm
