Hello, today we will be talking about how to solve and graph inequalities. We will do this in steps.
Step 1:
Lets say your inequality was y>-2 the first thing you would want to do is solve for y (the variable) but since this problem is already solved, we will go onto the next step.
Step 2:
The next thing you want to do is graph the inequality. To do this you simply draw a graph and plot the point which for this problem would be (0,-2). Simply go to the y axis (vertical) and go down 2 and put a point there. Because the line is just y not both x and y, the line is horizontal.
Lower level graph
graph( 10, -10, 0, 0, 0, -2 )
Step 3:
Now that you have graphed the inequality it depends what level you are at. If you are at a HIGHER LEVEL in math you will have to shade it BUT IF YOU ARE AT A LOWER LEVEL YOU ARE DONE!. To do this simply use the original equation y>-2 and plug in any number including 0 (unless the line goes through the number, then you must choose a different number). For this example we will use 0. First, look at the equation which will now read... 0>-2. If this is true you will shade the side which has the number that you chose to plug into the equation. If this is not true than shade the opposite side. Since this statement 0>-2 is true we will shade in the side which our number, 0, is on.
Higher level Graph:
graph( 10, -10, 0, 0, 0, -2 )
Shading is above line.
