Question 71722: I have a discussion questio I woul like for some one to explain to me. This is not a graded question or anyhting.
Q: Explain how the graph of can be obtained from the graph of y = x2
this is how the possible answers are presented:
shift the graph of y = x2 left 3 units and down 5 units
. shift the graph of y = x2 left 3 units and up 5 units.
. shift the graph of y = x2 right 3 units and down 5 units
shift the graph of y = x2 right 3 units and up 5 units.
Something to me does not make sense. Seems like something is missing
Thanks to anyone who can help me resolve this.

Question 71858: Here is another one that is not explained in the 8 books that I have. At least not good enough whereas I can make sense of it.
the degree three polynomial f(x) with real coefficients and leading coefficient 1, has 4 and 3 + i among its roots. Express f(x) as a product of linear and quadratic polynomials with real coefficients.
Possible answers:
f(x) =(x+4)(x^2 + 6x +10)
f(x) =(x-4)(x^2 -6x -9)
f(x) =(x-4)(x^2 -6x +10)
f(x) = (x-4)(x^2 -6x +9)
Thanks to anyone who can possibly explain this to me.

Question 72128: Solve the system of equations using the substitution method.
If the answer is a unique solution, present it as an ordered pair: (x, y). If not, specify whether the answer is “no solution” or “infinitely many solutions.”
-4x + y = 8
2x + 3y = -1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I tried doing it but got a really long decimal.
-4x + y = 8
2x + 3y = -1
Y= 4x+8
2x + 3(4x+8) = -1
2x+ 12x +24 = -1
14x + 24 -24 = -1 – 24
14x= -25
x= 1.785714286
