Question 49330This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra
: Hi , I need some help graphing the function. I came up with the figures, just do not know how to put it on the graph
f(x)=-2x-5
y = mx + b
f(x) = -2x - 5
Slope, m = -2
Intercept, b = -5

Starting on the y axis, where y = -5, move one unit to the left and two units up. Connect these two points with a straight line.

Another way i came up with:
Find f(0): y = -5
Find x when y = 0
0 = -2x - 5
x = -5/2
Connect these two points on the axes with a straight line.

Question 49741This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra
: I need help creating an equation for the below real life situation in which you would use a linear or straight line graph and create one to fit the example. I created the example, I just do not know how to put it into a equation or inequality.
Can someone please help. I am running out of time to submit my answer. I was out on the apot in a discussion class and I do not know how to respond.

Please see my example
An example of when a linear line graph may come in handy for interpreting data, would be charting a company's assets under management. My company uses one to show the amount of increase/decrease from one quarter to the next and also annually at a chosen time, showing one year to the next. For example, my company Franklin Templeton's Assets under management in 2002 was about 123 Billion, Month ending May 31, 2005 was a little over $ 417 Billion and the same time frame one year later, May 31,2006 was a little over 492 Billion ((yes... almost a trillion!). . A graph would be able to show the assets under management and how they have grown from one year to the next. People can track their personal investments from one month to the next or yearly, whichever method they prefer. However, should never be used to predict future growth because the market can fluctuate. But I think it is a perfect way to put a financial picture into play at a corporate or personal level.

Question 50584: In most businesses, increasing prices of their product can have a negative effect on the number of customers of the business. A bus company in a small town has an average a number of riders of 1,000 per day. The bus company charges $2.00 for a ride. They conducted a survey of their customers and found that they will lose approximately 50 customers per day for each $.25 increase in fare. Given the description above, graph the function, identify the graph of the function (line, parabola, hyperbola, or exponential), explain your choice, and give the domain and range as shown in the graph you have drawn, and also the domain and range of the entire function excluding unrealistic values. The vertical axis is the number of riders per day and the horizontal axis is the fare.
