Question 48010This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra
: Could someone please tell me a "real life" situation where a straight line graph might be applicable snd why you think it may be true
what about a "real life" situation that follows a linear equation, with the independent variable being years. What would the slope tell you about future years?
I have had practice solving equations with one variable and equations with two variables. How are those kind of problems alike, how are they different and what if an equation had 3 variables?
My chapter 7 is an introduction to graphing so I am trying to piece it together

Question 48069: I have tried over and over to solve and graph this problem I don't know what Iam doing wrong, can some one please show me how to graph this.
These data represent the number of students attending a high school.
Year Number of Students
1985 212
1986 295
1987 352
1988 401
1989 473
1990 519
1991 602
(a) Draw a line graph for the data.
(b) Use the line graph to predict how many students enrolled in 1992.

Question 48236: Can anyone help?
Unit 2 Discussion Board
Deliverable Length: 3 - 4 paragraphs
Details: When using the quadratic formula to solve a quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0, the discriminant is b2 - 4ac. This discriminant can be positive, zero, or negative. (When the discriminant is negative, then we have the square root of a negative number. This is called an imaginary number, sqrt(-1) = i. )
Explain what the value of the discriminant means to the graph of y = ax2 + bx + c. Hint: Chose values of a, b and c to create a particular discriminant. Then, graph the corresponding equation.
Search the Cybrary and Internet. In the real world, where might these imaginary numbers be used?

Question 48253: I have have to plot the following, y=100 -6x, I have to find the slope, the y intercept and x intercept. I am using the y=mx+b slope intercept method. so I know my y intercept is 100 and my slope is -6 over 1. My question is when i graph this - what scale should i use on the y axis so i don't have to use 1:1 ratio and then also am i required to use the same scale on the x axis? (and if my answers above aren't accurate please correct me!)
thanks

Question 48269: i have a 3 part question that i can't seem to figure out. graph the below two equation --- P =2Q - 2 on vertical and Q=3P -14 on hortizontal, I tried doing this using the y=mx+b but it doesn't seem right.. 2nd Question: find combo of P & Q which meets both constraints and then finally find the slope of each line (looking for derivative of P with respect to Q.) I have tried several options and my answer does not look right. thanks

Question 48277: I need to graph y= -4xsquared +16x-12
I also need to find the intercepts.
I have completed the square, except I come up with
y+76 = 4-(xsquared-4x-16)
I also came up with the y intercept of (0, -12)
I am not sure if that is right. I also could not come up with the x intercept because I can not get the equation into vertex form. I am really confused.

Question 48571: Find an equation of the line
a. passing through (-5,4) and parallel to 2x-3y=4. leave answer in slope intercept form.
I have worked the entire problem out and came up with y=2/3x-29/3. But the answer on the handout say it should be y=2/3x-22/3. what am i doing wrong?
