Question 98061: x-2y=6 how would you show this on graph
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
FIRST YOU PUT THE EQUATION IN THE LINE FORM [Y=mX+b] WHERE (m)=SLOPE & (b)=THE Y INTERCEPT & THEN GRAPH
X-2Y=6
-2Y=-X-6
Y=2X+6 NOW WE HAVE THE SLOPE(m)=2 & THE Y INTERCEPT(b)=6 OR THIS IS THE POINT (0,6)
SETTING Y=0 & SOLVING FOR X WE GET ANOTHER POINT THUS:
0=2X+6
2X=-6
X=-6/2
X=-3 OR THE POINT(-3,0)
NOW WE CAN GRAPH IT.
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = 2x +6).
