Question 979166: I am given the following defined piece wise defined function:
f(x)=
{ x-1 if x<-1 }
-1 if x=-1
x+1 if x>-1
and I am able to graph it but I do need a lot of help with the following please: Thank you so much I am desperate for help on this please.
1. For x <-1 what is the slope of the line?
2. If the line were continued, where would it cross the y axis?
3. Therefore the rule for x<-1 is f(x)_____?
4. find the point sketched at x=-1. What is f(-1)?
5. for x>-1 what is the slope of the line? what is the y intercept?
6. therefore the rule for x>-1 is f(x)=___??

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) the line is f(x) = x - 1, therefore slope is 1
2) the y intercept for f(x) = x - 1, is -1
3) f(x) = x - 1
4) point is (-1, -1) and f(-1) = -1
5) the line is f(x) = x + 1, therefore slope is 1 and y intercept is 1
6) f(x) = x + 1
