The gradient is minus the derivative
grad = -1/2
grad = -dy/dx

Gradient is a synonym for slope. In slope-intercept form:
y=mx+b, m is the slope.

So for the equation:
y=(-1/2)x+3, m=(-1/2) so slope (or gradient) is (-1/2)
