Question 95048: Please help im stuck on liner equations the problem is 4y+3x=-12. I need to do this in the form of y=mx+b. Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have a final tomorrow and I just cant get past this to finish my chapterrequired before the final.
Answer by checkley71(8403)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4y+3x=-12 subtract (3x) from both sides.
4y=-3x-12 now divide all terms by 4.
y=-3x/4-12/4 now reduce.
y=-3x/4-3 this is the line formula [Y=mX+b] WHERE (m)=SLOPE & (b)=Y INTERCEPT.
IF YOU HAVE TO PLOT THIS LINE THEN SET Y=0 & SOLVE FOR X THUS:
0=-3X/4-3
-3X/4=3 NOW CROSS MULTIPLY:
-3X=12 NOW DIVIDE BY -3
X=12/-3
X=-4 THUS YOU NOW HAVE TWO POINTS (-4,0) & (0,-3).
PLOT THESE TWO POINTS & DRAW A LINE THROUGH THEM.
YOU WILL HAVE A LINE WITH A SLOPE (m) OF -3/4 & A Y INTERCEPT (b) OF -3.
(graph 300x200 pixels, x from -6 to 5, y from -10 to 10, y = -3x/4 -3).
