Question 916560: Write the polynomial function P (lowest-possible degree) that could have the graph shown on the right
Finding the leading coefficient

I understand that it must be 4 degrees because it goes through at 3 bounces at -1 and through at at 2.
and it would be set up: (x+3)(x+1)^2(x-2)
I know it must be negative because it is downwards but how do I find the leading coefficient?
Thank you
Answer by MathLover1(20855) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if it goes through at bounces at and through at , we will have:
...when you multiply all this, you will get
the coefficient of the term with the highest degree (which is or ) is called the leading coefficient: in your case the leading coefficient is
but, on your image graph goes through points (,),(,), (,), and y-intercept is (,)
so, is this graph http://i.imgur.com/ERfGDlj.png you need to find equation for?
