The function containing the absolute value has a critical point forming a sharp corner or at least a sudden change in direction, so the function will have two branches or is built in two parts changing at t=-1.

The quadratic function will have vertex as a maximum, and you can find the roots (zeros) either by factoring or converting into vertex form (completing the square).
