Hi,

the standard slope-intercept form for an equation of a line is 

  where m is the slope and b the y-intercept.

Line parallel to y = 5x - 9 and goes through (2,1) 

  m = 5 for this line

New Line:  Parallel Lines have same slope

   |Using P(2,1)to solve for b



      -9 = b

   | In slope-intercept form

 Find the equation in slope-intercept form that is parallel to y = 5x - 9 and goes through (2,1)

y = 5x - 9 is in slope-intercept form, y = mx + b

m is the slope, b is the y-intercept.

Use y = mx + b and the point to find b

1 = 5*2 + b

b = -9
