Question 84133: x -2 -1 0 1 2
y .25 .5 1 2 4
Given the table above, graph the function, identify the graph of the function (line, parabola, hyperbola, or exponential), explain your choice, and give the domain and range as shown in the graph, and also the domain and range of the entire function.
I understand that it is a line graph. I just can't figure out what the domain and range is for this graph. I someone help me?

----------
It is not a line graph.
The equation is y=2^x ; it is exponential because the variable is in the exponent.

-------
Domain: x can take any value; Domain is All Real Numbers.
Range: Since 2^x is always positive, Range is all Real #'s > 0.
----------
The Domain that is shown is -2,-1,0,1,2
The Range that is shown is 0.25,0.5,0,2,4

Using the table we have, lets plot these points
xy
-2.25
-10.5
01
12
24

Plot the 1st point (-2,.25)

Plot the 2nd point (-1,0.5)

Plot the 3rd point (0,1)

Plot the 4th point (1,2)

Plot the 5th point (2,4)

By drawing a line through the points, we get

So by now you can see that the graph is a curve in which is growing at an exponential rate. So the graph of the function is exponential. The domain is the set of x values which will produce a y value. Since any x will work, the domain is all real numbers. The range is the set of y values that come out. So the range is since the graph doesn't go below the x axis
