Question 83138: Solve 6x-0.37=5(x-0.28)
The length of one of the equal legs of an isosceles triangle is 8 cm less than 4 times the length of the base. If the perimeter is 29 cm,find the length of one of the equal legs.
solve 2/5x=-10
solve 4x+8=-4.
I appreciate whatever help i can get on these. thank you so much.

1)
First you need to multiply out the bracket. Multiply 5 into each of the two terms you have:

Then rearrange to get all terms in x on one side and everything else on the other (don't forget to change the signs when you move the terms across the "equal" sign!!):

x=-1.03
2) When dealing with word problems, just follow what the question is saying, word for word:
"The length of one of the equal legs of an isosceles triangle is 8 cm less than 4 times the length of the base."
Length of an equal leg = L
4 times the length of the base = 4b

"If the perimeter is 29 cm,find the length of one of the equal legs."
The perimeter is the sum of all sides:

Substituting from the first equation into the second (replacing L with 4b-8):

Rearrange:

giving b=5
and hence
3) solve
Here you can multiply both sides by 5 to get rid of the fraction:

And then divide by 2 to isolate x:

4)solve 4x+8=-4
I guess this one should be easy now, right?
