Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through (5,3) and is parallel to x+3y=6.
-----
y = (-1/3)x +2
slope = -1/3
---------
Every parallel line has slope = -1/3
------
Form:
y = mx + b
3 = (-1/3)5 + b
3 = (-5/3) + b
b = (9/3)+(5/3)
b = 14/3
-----------
Equation:
y = (-1/3)x + (14/3)
------------------------
