Question 807991: 3.1^x = 49.8
We're working on natural logrithyms & e's. I truly don't know what to do. Do I do inverse operation of 3.1/ 49.8? I'm having a brain cramp. My answer is no where near the book. HELP!!!

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3.1^x = 49.8
-----
When the variable is in the exponent, take the log or ln.
------
log(3.1^x) = log(49.8)
-----
x*log(3.1) = log(49.8)
--------
x = log(49.8)/log(3.1)
--------
x = 1.6972/0.4914
----------
x = 3.4541
