3y - 9x = 18 is the same as -9x + 3y = 18

x-intercept

To find the x-intercept, plug in and solve for x

Start with the given equation.

Plug in .

Multiply and 0 to get 0.

Simplify.

Divide both sides by to isolate .

Reduce.

So the x-intercept is .

y-intercept

To find the y-intercept, plug in and solve for y

Start with the given equation.

Plug in .

Multiply and 0 to get 0.

Simplify.

Divide both sides by to isolate .

Reduce.

So the y-intercept is .

Now let's plot the points and which are the x and y intercepts respectively.

Now draw a straight line through the plotted points to graph .

3y=9x+18
y=3x+6
Now it is in y intercept form y=mx+b
y int = (0,6) (first point)
Slope m=3
So from (0,6) one right, three up
(1,9) second point
From (1,9) one right, three up
(2,12) third point

3y - 9x = 18
Solve for y:
1. 3y= 9x + 18
2. y= 3x + 6 (This is the equation you will graph)
To graph:
option A.
Make a table for y = 3x +6.
If x =0, y=6
If x =1, y=9
If x =-1, y=3
You could get as many points as you like, however you need at least TWO, to be able to draw the line.
Option B.
For y = 3x +6.
Make x =0, to get your y intercept. In this case, for x=0, y= 6.
Then look at your slope, this is the coefficient of x. In this case 3 (POSITIVE). This can be written as 3/1.
To graph you proceed as follows.
Locate your first point (0,6) then, from 6 on your y axis, the slope on fraction form, tells you to go up 3 and right 1. (since its positive).. You coul also go down 3 and left 1, obtaining the same line once you connect both points.
