Find an equation of the line that passes through (4, 2); perpendicular to 2x-3y=2
.
find slope of:
2x-3y=2
2x=3y+2
2x-2=3y
(2/3)x-2/3=y
slope is 2/3
a line perpendicular must have a slope that is the "negative reciprocal": -3/2
.
plug slope (-3/2) and point (4,2) into the "point-slope form"
y - y1 = m(x - x1)
y - 2 = (-3/2)(x - 4)
y - 2 = (-3/2)x - (-3/2)4
y - 2 = (-3/2)x - (-6)
y - 2 = (-3/2)x + 6
y = (-3/2)x + 8 (answer)
