Question 74299: Hi,
What are the coordinates of the y-intercept of the graph of y=2/3x-6?
I know that the y=-6, and x=0 but why does it equal zero. Also if the equation looked like y= -6x+2/3? would the answer be (0,-2/3)?
thanks in advance

The reason why x=0 is because the y-intercept hits the y-axis when x=0. The y-axis is a vertical line that passes through x=0, so any intercept will have x=0. If the equation looked like
then the y-intercept would be (0,2/3). If we let x=0 (where the y axis is) then

Which is our y-coordinate of our y-intercept. I hope this is a bit clearer.
