How do you convert x degrees centigrade to y degrees fahrenheit? The function is f(x)= 9/5x + 32 (the green graph)
write it
y = x + 32
find the inverse, replace x with y and solve for y
y + 32 = x
subtract 32 from both sides
y = x - 32
multiply both sides by 5/9, and you have
y = (x-32), which is Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion fraction (red graph)

-40 degrees is the same in both system shown by the graph
