Question 669156: find an equation of the line containing the given pair of points (-2,-6) and (-5,-8)
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
-2 -6 -5 -8

slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( -8 - (-6) )/( -5 - (-2) )
( -2 / -3 )
m= 2/3
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point(-2, -6) in
Y = m x + b
-6.00 = 2/3 * -2 + b
-6.00 = -1 1/3 + b
b= -6 + 4/3
b= -14/ 3
So the equation will be
Y = 2/3 x -14/3
