Question 638604: given the points (3,-1) and (1,3), find the slope between them.
given the points (3,-1) and (1,3), and using the answer above, write the equation of the line in the form y=mx+b
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x1 y1 x2 y2
3 -1 1 3
slope m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
( 3 - -1 )/( 1 - 3 )
( 4 / -2 )
m= -2
The required line passes through both the points. So we select one point and plug it with the slope
Plug value of the slope and point(3,-1) in
Y = m x + b
-1.00 = -2 * 3 + b
-1.00 = -6 + b
b= -1 + 6
b= 5
So the equation will be
Y = -2 x + 5
