If width = "y"
Then the length = 2 + width = 2 + y

The perimeter of a rectangle is given by...
perimeter = 2 length + 2 *width
perimeter = 2(2+y)+ 2y
34 = 4 + 2y + 2y
34 = 4 + 4y
34 - 4 = 4y
30 = 4y
30 / 4 = y
15 /2 = y
7.5 = y
The width = 7.5 inches
Now the length = 2 + y = 2 + 7.5 = 9.5 inches

Let the width of the rectangle be x in.
So length = (2x + 2) in
Then perimeter = 2*(l + w)
= 2*(2x + 2 + x)
= 2*(3x + 2)
= 6x + 4
Given perimeter = 34
==> 6x + 4 = 34
==> 6x + 4 - 4 = 34 - 4
==> 6x = 30
==> 6X/6 = 30/6
==> X = 5
So the width of the rectangle = 5 in
length of the rectangle = 2x + 2
= 10 + 2
= 12 in
