Where does the line -3x-4y=-12 intesect the x-axis?
The x-axis is where y=0.
So, let y=0 in your equation and solve for x.
You get -3x-4(0)=-12
-3x=-12
x=4 ; that is the x -intercept.
------------------------
Where does the line intersect the y-axis
The y-axis is where x=0.
So let x=0 in your equation and solve for y.
You get -3(0)-4y=-12
-4y=-12
y=3 ; that is the y-intercept
-----------
What is the slope?
To find the slope put the equation in the slope-intercept form
as follows:
-3x-4y=-12
Multiply thru by -1 to get:
3x+4y=12
4y=-3x+12
y=(-3/4)x+3
The slope is -3/4

Answer by Lacey020991(49) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First put this equation into slope-intercept form. (y=)
-3x - 4y = -12 ------add 3x to each side.
-4y = 3x - 12 -------divide each side by -4
Your y-intercept is the last number in the slope-intercept equation. In this case it is 3.
To find the x-intercept, the y point is 0. So you would fill in a 0 for the y value.
-3x - 4y = -12
-3x - 4(0) = -12 -----fill in a zero for y
-3x - 0 = -12 ---------(-4)times 0 is zero
-3x = -12 -------------The 0 can be taken out.
x = 4 ---------------divide by -3 and get 4
.
y-intercept = 3
x-intercept = 4
.
Tip: If you didnt want to put your equation into slope-intercept form, then you could fill in a 0 for the x-value, to find the y-intercept and solve it that way like we did for the x-intercept.
.
To find the slope, m, you would need 2 point. You could use your intercepts for this
X(4,0)
Y(0,3)
x1=4 ; y1=0
x2=0 ; y2=3
.
.
Hope this helped. If you need me to explain something better, just let me know.
