You would try and isolate the x.
3(x-4) > 7x - 9 ----distribute the 3 on the left side
3x - 12 > 7x - 9 ----subtract 3x from each side
-12 > 4x - 9 ---- add 9 to each side
-3 > 4x -------divide each side by 4

.
Then for your graph, you would have a number line with a open dot on and you would shade to the right.
