Question 547728: graph the function - label vertex and axis of symmetry
y=-(x+3)^2 + 5
Answer by mathie123(224) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
So for any parabola, we have the following possible transformations:
where (h,k) is the vertex, and a is the dilation and reflection.
So from this we can see that (-3,5) is the vertex, and we are reflecting it along the x axis (since a=-1).
So we have y=x^2(the base function) to begin
And now we reflect it along the x axis
And we use the vertex point (or slide the whole thing to the left 3 units and up 5 units
We can also make a table of values and check if they match with our graph.
Hopefully this helps!
