Work it from the inside out:

    5    <-- that's positive five.    
   -5    <-- that - sign in front makes it negative five.
  |-5|   <-- those absolute value bars make it positive five.
 -|-5|   <-- that - sign in front makes it negative five.
|-|-5||  <-- those absolute value bars make it positive five.
