find a and b so that the graph x/a + y/b=1 passes through (3,-2)and(9,2).
Substitute to get two equations in a, b:
1st:3/a - 2/b = 1
1st: 3b-2a=ab
2nd: 9/a + 2/b = 1
2nd: 9b+2a = ab
Add to get: 12b=2ab
6b=ab
ab-6b=0
b(a-6)=0
b=0 or a=6
But b cannot be 0 as it is the denominator of the original equation.
so, a=6
Substitute in 1st to get:
3b-2(6)=6b
3b=-12
b=-4
EQUATION:
x/6-y/4=1
