Draw a horizontal line and a vertical line through
that red point:




Notice that the green vertical line crosses the 
x-axis at the number -2.  Therefore the first or 
x-coordinate of the red point is -2.

Notice that the green horizontal line crosses 
the y-axis at the number -5.  Therefore the second 
or y-coordinate of the red point is -5.

Therefore the red point is (-2,-5)
