Question 436897: How would I solve this problem?
Graph the solution set of the system of inequalities or indicate that the system has no solution.
-x + 2y < -6 (This less than symbol is underlined.)
3x + 2y > - 18
I know that shading would be involved but how does it look like graphed?
Thank you very much for your help.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solving these as equations (instead of inequalities) shows where the "boundary" lines are for the system
-x + 2y < -6 crosses the x-axis at (6,0) and crosses the y-axis at (0,-3)
___ it is a solid line (less than or equal to) and the shading would be below the line
3x + 2y > - 18 crosses the x-axis at (-6,0) and crosses the y-axis at (0,-9)
___ it is a dotted line and the shading would be above the line
the lines intersect at (-3,-4.5) and divide the x-y plane into 4 wedges
___ since the solution area is above one line AND below the other , the shaded area should be the wedge to the right
