Remember if there is a negative outside the brackets, you change the signs of the
terms inside the brackets, the brackets are removed.
8x - 3x - 5 = 25
;
add 5 to both sides, do the math on the x's
5x = 25 + 5
5x = 30
;
divide both sides by 5
1x =
x = 6

Now check the solution of x=6 in the original problem
8x - (3x + 5)= 25
replace x with 6
8(6) - (3(6) + 5) = 25
48 - (18 + 5) = 25
48 - 23 = 25
