You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To find the x intercept set y = 0 and get
5x-(3)(0)=-15
5x=-15
(5x)(1/5)=(-15)(1/5)
x = -3
so the x intercept is (-3,0)
to find the y intercept set x=0 and get
(5)(0)-3y = -15
-3y = -15
(-3y)(-1/3) = (-15)(-1/3)
y = 5
so the y intercept is (0,5)
Solved by pluggable solver: DESCRIBE a linear EQUATION: slope, intercepts, etc
Equation 5+x+%2B+-3+y+=+-15 describes a sloping line. For any
equation ax+by+c = 0, slope is -a%2Fb+=+-5%2F-3.
  • X intercept is found by setting y to 0: ax+by=c becomes ax=c. that means that x = c/a. -15/5 = -3.
  • Y intercept is found by setting x to 0: the equation becomes by=c, and therefore y = c/b. Y intercept is -15/-3 = 5.
  • Slope is -5/-3 = 1.66666666666667.
  • Equation in slope-intercept form: y=1.66666666666667*x+5.
