Question 396838: What is the answer to this my daughters teacher got 1.25 she gets 5.25 who is correct? the algebra equation is 7(x-3)+29=3(x+2)+7
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
7(x-3) + 29 = 3(x+2) + 7
7x - 21 + 29 = 3x + 6 + 7
7x + 8 = 3x + 13
7x - 3x = 13 - 8
4x = 5
x =
x = 1.25

You can prove this to yourself; replace x with 1.25 in the original equation
7(1.25-3) + 29 = 3(1.25+2) + 7
7(-1.75) + 29 = 3(3.25) + 7
-12.25 + 29 = 9.75 + 7
16.75 = 16.75, equality reigns!
