Question 390414: Teresa is taking a vacation in Mexico. She wants to buy
souvenirs that cost $10.00, $3.00, or $0.50. If she wants to
spend exactly $100.00 and buy at least one of each type of
souvenir, how many items at each price should she buy?
I know to set it up 10(a) + 3 (b) + 1/2(c)= 100
but how do I solve this type of equation?

Teresa is taking a vacation in Mexico.
She wants to buy souvenirs that cost $10.00, $3.00, or $0.50.
If she wants to spend exactly $100.00
and buy at least one of each type of
souvenir, how many items at each price should she buy?
------
Value Eq.: 10a + 3b + (1/2)c = 100
3b+(1/2)c must be a multiple of 10
---
Solve 3b+(1/2)c = 10k where k is a positive whole number.
6b + c = 20k
---
Now 6b+c must be a multiple of 20.
b = 3 and c = 2
----
If b = 3 that is $9
If c = 2 that is $1
Then a must be 9.
