In 1990 the life expectancy of males in a certain country was 62.6 years. In 1994, it was 64.7. Let E represent the life expectancy in year t and let t represent the number of years since 1990.
The linear function E(t) that fits the data is
E(t) =
(round to the nearest 10th)
Use the function to predict the life expectancy of males in 2007.
E(17) =
This is what I have figured out so far. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Two points (0, 62.6) (4, 64.7)
Now: 64.7 - 62.6/4 - 0 =
2.10/4 =
.53 (round to the nearest tenth) would be .50.
So the first part of the problem asking for the linear function would be:
E(t)= 0.5 + 62.6
Second Part
E(17) = 0.5(17) + 62.6 = 71.1
E(17) = 71.1
