SOLUTION: Find slope if it exists, of the line containing the pair of points (-2, -16) (-9, -18). Would this be the y2 - y1/x2 - x1 so: -16 - (-18)/ -2 - (-9) = -16 + 18/ -2 + 9 = so t

Question 359498: Find slope if it exists, of the line containing the pair of points (-2, -16)
(-9, -18). Would this be the y2 - y1/x2 - x1
so: -16 - (-18)/ -2 - (-9) = -16 + 18/ -2 + 9 = so the slope would be
(7,2)
Is that correct?
Thankyou.

Answer by neatmath(302)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You did all the calculations right, and set up the slope right, but you are off just a little bit at the end.

You got to a point where you had

This becomes

That is the final answer!

The slope of a line is always just a number, it is never in coordinate form.

The slope is just the measure of how "steep" a line gets, and is usually referred to as RISE over RUN.

In this case, with a slope of 2/7 it is telling you that for every 7 you move in the horizontal direction, you will go up 2 in the vertical direction!

You had it right, but just went too far with the answer.

You answer should be

I hope this helps!
