Question 356912: Solving Equations with Radicas and Exponents
Find all real solutions to this equation.
√(x+4)-2√(x-1)=-1

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
√(x+4)-2√(x-1)=-1
5x-(4sqrt(x-1)(sqrt(x+4))=1 square each side
(-4sqrt(x-1)(sqrt(x+4))=1-5x
16x^2+48x-64=25x^2-10x+1 square each side
9x^2-58x+65=0
(x-5)(9x-13)=0
x=13/9, x=5
x=5 is the only answer.
x=13/9 is extraneous.
