Question 354844: How do i solve the systems by graphing on this problem?
y = 3x - 17
y = -5x + 15
Answer by dlh(17) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
On linear equations, the last number is always the y-intercept. That means that the line crosses the y-axis at that point. When you are graphing linear equations that's always where you start. So for the 1st problem you place a point on -17 on the y-axis. You have to have 2 points to make a line so you have to find your next point. That number in front of the x is your slope. Its the reate in which your line is going up of down. The why i do slope is do rise over run. This means that you you have to go up befor you can go over. For the slope it just looks like a 3, but remember whole numbers always have an invisible 1 underneath them. So your slope really is 3 over 1. So taking that into account, from your first point on the y-axis, move up 3 places then move to the right 1 place. that should be your line for the 1st equation. Follow the same steps in equation 2 but for the slope its negative so that means you either have to make the denominator or numerater negative.
Hope this helps you. Good luck.
