Question 354236: I need to find an equation for the following word problem please.
If you earnes an average of $25,000 over your working life and you retire after 2005 at age 62,63, or 64, then your annual Social Security benefit will be $7,000, $7,500 or $8,000 respectively. There is a linear equation that gives the annual benefit "b" in terms of age "a" for these three years. find the equation.
Stuck witht this problem. Could you please help? Thank you!!!

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the benefit increases $500 each year , so that would be the slope of the line

the initial benefit is 7000 , and the "a" is years over 62

b = 500(a-62) + 7000 ___ b = 500a - 24000
