When you graph an equation or function, you will end up with a line, whether it is curved or straight.

When you graph an inequality, you will end up with a shaded region depicting an entire area of possible solutions.

For example, it is easy to graph the equation y=x

It is just a straight line crossing through the origin, where each y value on the line is the same as the x value.

However, if you graph the inequality y>x

you will end up with an entire shaded region above the line y=x

where every y value is greater than any x value.
