: I have a piecewise defined function to graph:
f(x) = {-1 if x<-1}
{1 if -1<=x<=1}
{-1 if x>1}
I get three lines that overlap so I know I'm wrong!
Thank you very much!

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You don't get overlappiing lines because the three
conditions for "x" will not allow it.
Graph a horizontal line at y=-1 for all x that are strictly <-1
Graph a horizontal line at y=1 for all x that are between -1 and +1
Graph a horizontal line at y=-1 for all x that are strictly >+1
There should be no overlapping of these line pieces.
Cheers,
Stan H.
