Question 31308: Hello I need some help with the problems below. I am not 100% sure how this site works but any help is appreciated.
1. what is the slope of the line y=5x+7
at what point does the line y=5x+7 cross the y axis
2. The y intercept of the line y=20x+500 is 500 how do you show the y intercept as an ordered pair
3. Find the slope between the two points (1, 5) and (0, 0)

Answer by brianunlv(12)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Slope is rise/run or simply 5/1 or 5
Crosses y-axis at (0,7) or y = 7
2. for ordered pair (x,y) since x = 0 for the "y intercept" we have (0,500)
3. Slope = m = (Y2 -Y1) ÷ (X2 -X1)
m = (0 - 5) ÷ (0 - 1)
= -5 ÷ -1
= 5

Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the form of the equation is , then
m is the slope. m = 5 That is the slope
----
It crosses where x = 0. x = 0 is the definition of the y-axis

That is where the line crosses the y-axis.
-----
(0,500) is the y-intercept as an ordered pair
It's (x,y), and x is always 0 at the y-intercept
That's how you find it- you make x = 0.
------
Find the slope between the two points (1, 5) and (0, 0)
the slope is defined as

Just match up (x[1], y[1]) and (x[2], y[2])
with (1, 5) and (0, 0)
the slope is defined as
