Question 296774: Use the graph of f(x)=sqrt(x) to sketch the graph of:
a. y=f(x-1)
b. y=-f(x)+3
Is there a formula I can use to come up with the solution? I would show my work, but I seriously don't even know what the first step is and I can't find a lesson or graph solver on this site to help me out. Any help is appreciated- even if it's just a reference to another site that explains what to do with this problem! Thanks! :D
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Use the graph of
f(x)=sqrt(x) to sketch the graph of:
-----------
Graph of f(x) = sqrt(x)
------
a. y=f(x-1)
Moves every point of the graph 1 unit to the right.
----------------------------------------------------------
Graph of f(x) = sqrt(x-1)
----------------------------------------------------------
b. y=-f(x)+3
The negative reflects f(x)=sqrt(x) in the x axis.
The 3 translates every point of f(x)= -sqrt(x) 3 units up.
-----------------
The resulting graph is:
